**General Information for Writing Essays**
English 132
The Freshmen spend the first semester studying the elements of literature such as the parts of plot, theme, symbolism, and the devices of poetry. They also study grammar elements such as sentence combining by using adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases, compound sentences, complex sentences, noun clauses, adjective clauses, adverb clauses, etc. Sentence study skills are also developed and will be reinforced during the second semester. English 132 students will delve deeper into topics and analyze further than English 131 students.
The second semester will be spent studying essay writing, grammar, Great Expectations or The Odyssey, speeches, doing a research project, and Romeo & Juliet.
English 132 Homework For the week of September 20:
Objectives: Students will be able to identify the parts of plot in a novel and read for comprehension.
Activities:
Creative writing
Lord of the Flies parts of plot, symbolism, theme, etc.
Sentence Study
Assignment: Sentence Study. Lord of the Flies essay.
